TÈ ÁMÕR -By: Queen Latifah

by Eden Benibo May 28, 2019

Fire in my eyes, stars in the Skies
The fault in our Stars,
make way for our hours.

By Colors I love,
So pure as a whites’ white
So wild, a Volcanic eruption,
In the thrills and throws of needing a man,
So tamed as Catherine the Shrews’.

Feeling like the rage of Ashõkas’ anger,
In innocence I loved,
Knowing not what brings the hour
Knowing I would slip, minding not what it brings

I slipped, blame me not
For these feelings like lubricated lips dancing, hugging over and over.

I believe that life is a price,
Because you live, doesn’t mean you alive,
It gets funny when you laugh-cry,
For these are the moments Pure.

I lied! Even though I said I didn’t love you,
I lied! To keep my heart at peace

You were my Amõr and I your Aûròra,
You were my safety zone, somewhere I craved for
Yet felt like an Island of my own, bleeding

I regret not this feeling,
For its memories make me an Oliver Twist
I would travel back in time to the first Chapter with you,
Only if the clock ticks back to the time we said in our hearts,
“TÈ ÁMÕR”,
Erasing the story that led to today.

I could name a few things thicker than blood ~By Sara Bedri

by Eden Benibo May 14, 2019

i. Embracing my roots glued me to the ground every time I tried to spread my wings

ii. I am thirteen and my mother developed a dislike towards foreign boys she said I would be much safer with boys my own race

iii. The only men that ever dared to hurt me, to spit my name in a conversation in favour of their own ego, to reduce my entire being to a bottle of Araqi, a thing for play that is bought sold and passed around, to degrade and humiliate my sisters, they were blood.

iv. Blood uses his own sister’s name to get into someone else’s sister’s pants.

v. I ran around the kitchen table in circles at nine thinking if I ran fast enough I’ll finally fly,

instead I got the wind knocked out of me and haven’t been able to breathe ever since.

vi. You are now manually breathing. Step 1 take a deep breath. Step 2 breathe in the accusations. Step 3 breathe out nonchalance

vii. The men that were considerate enough to walk past women in empty streets so they wouldn’t feel followed are the same men that fathered cat callers.
viii. Time never healed wounds.

ix. Time is nine months inside your mother’s womb wasted for you to compare every passing woman to an hourglass

x. The men in my country, having failed at every other, declared cat calling our national sport.

xi. The ghosts in my hometown felt like loneliness but the ghosts in my motherland feel like bad company, I cannot tell which is worse

xii. Where I come from the men like to silence their wives, open their mouths too wide when they laugh. You can see all of their thirty two teeth but lack of wisdom.

xiii. I am twenty and my mother does not know that blood no longer looks out for blood.
