Jarres Roads & Strong Hearts- By-Chikadibia

The city that never sleeps,
Always on the move,
Either sitting  still, or standing,
Always on the move.
In all of her gloriousness,
She’s that woman with wild big eyes. Uncombed hair, deep voice, wide nose.

A scowl on her stern face.
She’s black. Huge

Tall, with broad shoulders like that of a man -Beauty in disguise.
Sometimes, she smiles at you.
Laughs with you even. Celebrates your every little victory with you.
Other times, when she’s not seen wearing a frown, she’s that driving force propelling you to do more.
Is that woman you see just across the street, dotting on you, that not everybody likes.
But still wants the best for you.
Two faced; a caring mother.

The stern father
A child is seen on jagged clothes covered in dust, dragging his feet towards her. Feet soaked in mud
For lagging behind, she whips you with different sorts. Not just one.
Familiar with the different strokes when it hits you;
The one you fear the most – the long brown iréke cane, that curves all the way to the end.
Her lashing whips spells words like,ma suégbé on your back.
She whips you with her left hand, corrects you with her right hand.
Brings you close to her bosom;
To suckle,
This is home.
You feel safe yet again,
In her reassuring arms, thrive you will.
City that never sleeps,
Always on the move,
Either seating still, or standing.
Always on the move.
