Our Very Own Christmas

by Eden Benibo

This Christmas,
I heard harmattan told cold to fold
Gratefully, the trees are yet dancing,
Cause the breeze is still breathing
So, we remain the happy people that we are;
For our joy cannot be dehydrated,
As our thirsty peace
I see the skies grinning,
Even with faded rainbows
Children beaming;
As green and red ribbons gleam
It’s the phase,
When smiling faces;
Chants quasi phrases
Welcome to my hometown,
Where bells may not jingle;
But our pearls of joy never dwindles
Where life seems unfair;
But our hope still fills the air
Where Santa Claus,
Is just a clause to us;
But Father Christmas,
Will always gloss our moss
Where snows never fall,
But shows are never dull
Where gifts may not flow;
But our zest will always glow
Where our hips move like our lips;
To the music of glee,
For our ‘swag’ wags;
From left to right,
In a flight that crashes plights
This is our Christmas
This is Nigeria
But wherever you are,
You may not have silver to deliver
But I know you have;
The bold gold of love and care to share.

A Very Merry Christmas to You All
